Mr. Philippe Portalier is currently Senior Adviser at
Orgalime, the European engineering industries association, which represents the
interests of the largest industrial branch in the EU, with a turnover in the
order of ˆ1,779 billion in 2006, accounting for some 27% of the EU’s
manufactured output and a third of manufactured exports. He is the Secretary of
Orgalime’s Committee of the Electrical and Electronic Industries (CEEI).
Mr. Portalier has held roles of consultant in EU affairs for various public and
private organisations in France, including the European Commission when he was
Head of the Industry and Information Society department of the former Parisian
information centre on Europe “Sources d’Europe” (1994-1996), and the former
household appliance maker “Groupe Brand” (1997-1998).
Since then, he has applied his dual background in EU law and industrial property
rights to various regulatory and compliance issues in the EU harmonised area and
coordinates Orgalime advocacy on the application of the New Legislative
Framework (NLF) for the marketing of products.
Mr. Portalier received his Bachelor of EU Legal Affairs from Paris I – La
Sorbonne University (1986) and his Bachelor of Industrial Property Law from the
Paris II – Assas University (1985).
